There are two ways to get to Great Barrier Island: by air, by ‘plane’, a little over 30 minutes, or by ferry from Auckland, which runs twice a week and depending on the sea and wind conditions takes from three and a half hours, and if the weather is bad, then it’s a matter of luck.

The entrance to Hauraki Harbor, along with the Coromandel Peninsula, is covered by a number of islands. The largest of these islands is Great Barrier Island, or Great Barrier Island. It lies at the entrance to the harbor and serves as a natural barrier protecting the harbor from ferocious Pacific storms.
