Walking and Tramping
Various walks are available to undertake that range from 15 mins to several hours long, most tracks on the island are maintained by DOC (see their website for details or the various tracks)
There is a very well maintained track into the Hot Mineral Springs an easy walk taking about 1 hour each way, stay and relax in the pools before your return walk. The start of this track is on the road to Whangaparapara.
Station Rock is another easy walk on the ridge between Tryphena and Medland Valley. This walk is through native bush the view from the top after the 15 minute walk is spectacular looking out over Tryphena to Coromandel and on the other side down to Medland’s beach up across and up over to Claris.
Mount Hobson Summit walk is more difficult but quite suitable for the novice going via Windy Canyon its 3.3km long and takes about 2.5/3 hours one way.
We can also organise through local operators Diving, Fishing Charters, Kayak Hire and Paddle Boarding.
Eating out

Beaches
Medlands Beach on the East Coast and Awana further north are great for surfing with lovely white sand. Also good for those who want to lie on the beach and relax with very few people around and then have a dip in ocean with nothing between you and south America.
In close proximity to Trillium Lodge is a selection of lovely white sand beaches, suitable for swimmers of all ages.
There are no ATM machines or banks on the island therefore we suggest you bring some cash with you. Some restaurants, cafes, shops and stores on the island will not accept credit cards, others do, but may add a transaction fee.
